Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Processor Test : Impressive AnTuTu & Geekbench Scores

Samsung’s most popular series is the “A” series, which is the most sold smartphone in the market. The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G smartphone has been in the limelight since last year. The A55 5G features the same Exynos processor as the previous A54 5G. This phone is powered by the Samsung Exynos 1480, let’s see whether this processor is actually better than the previous model’s Exynos 1380 through some tests.

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Processor Overview

Samsung’s new Exynos 1480 chipset is based on the AMD RDNA2 graphics architecture, featuring the Samsung Xclipse 530 GPU. For AMD’s graphics, it offers pretty good performance in the midrange, as seen in the previous Exynos 1380 chipset. The chipset configuration is based on 4-nanometer (4 LPP) technology and has a total of 8 cores. It has 4 Cortex-A78 cores, which can run at a maximum clock speed of 2.75GHz, and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, which can run at a maximum clock speed of 2.05GHz.

Samsung’s A54 processor used the Mali-G68 GPU, but the new Exynos 1480 chipset uses the Xclipse GPU, which makes the phone’s gaming experience and heavy work easier. Xclipse GPUs are commonly used in their flagship series of processors, like the Exynos 2200, 2400 etc. Using advanced GPUs in mid-range devices can be appreciated as a good decision by Samsung.

Samsung Exynos 1480 AnTuTu Score

Exynos 1480’s AnTuTu score is 713,993, which can be called a pretty good score. The chipset generally stands in the middle between the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778+ and the Snapdragon 870 (in terms of score), but the phone’s better performance status for the OneUI software puts it a step ahead of the Snapdragon 870 chipset. The Exynos 1480 chipset is much more updated compared to the Exynos 1380; let’s see their AnTuTu score comparison in the chart below.

Due to the improved GPUs performance of the Exynos 1480, the AnTuTu test shows that the GPU score is the most improved among the scores over the previous Exynos 1380. The GPU score is 37252 higher than the previous processor. Overall this new chipset scored 20.14% higher than the previous chipset, indicating that the new processor is much more updated than before.

Samsung Exynos 1480 Geekbench Score

In terms of Geekbench scores, it achieved a score of 1161 in single-core and 3398 in multi-core, besides touching the GPU OpenCL score of 3994 for the GPUs. Let’s take a look at the improvement over the previous chipset.

Geekbench scores show that the single-core and multi-core scores are slightly better on the new processor than the previous processor, but the GPU score shows an improvement of up to 31.3%. This shows that the Samsung Xclipse 530 is quite an improvement over the Mali-G68.

CPU Throttling & 3D Mark Wild Life Test

A 15-minute CPU throttling test showed that this processor’s graph was almost constant and throttled up to a maximum of 81%. The highest CPU score is 397,337GIPS, and the average score is 358,397GIPS. A comparison with the former shows that the Exynos 1380 processor was throttled to a maximum of 78% with a maximum score of 241,854 GIPS and an average score of 210,896GIPS.

The 3D Mark Extreme Stress test showed that the stability of the chipset is 99.2%, which shows that this smartphone offers consistent and stable performance. The processor delivers high loop scores – the Best loop score is 1068 and the Low loop score is 1060, which means that this processor gives the smartphone good performance even in high-performance tasks.

The battery backup of the processor is quite good because after starting the 3D Mark test at 96% battery, it dropped to only 6% battery by the end of the test. Usually, the battery backup is good for the chipset equipped with 4-nanometer fabrication.

The 3D Mark Extreme test showed that the new Exynos 1480 chipset does not heat up much, as the smartphone warmed by 7°C after the end of the test. In addition, the loop score in the 3D Mark Extreme test of the previous processor (Loop Best Score 808) has now increased to 32.18% in the new processor.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G smartphone can be the best option in the midrange, and hopefully this smartphone can be the best smartphone in the “A” series for its stable performance and good GPUs. The GPU-related tasks of this smartphone performed well in all benchmarks and scored significantly better than the previous model.

In past years, Samsung’s midrange smartphones have not performed well to use their own Exynos chipsets; heating issues, gaming FPS drops have seen many problems, but the new Exynos 1480 chipset in the A55 can be considered a good chipset. It is expected that Samsung will give a suitable answer to the old problems related to their Exynos processor for the good performance of this A55 5G smartphone.
